well, duh. You treat them well, with love. So they have some to give back.

The only pet we have who seems to react to gender is my cockatiel, Lillis. I'm his person, so my husband is obviously his rival. So is our best friend (also male). But he reacts completely differently to my daughters or women who visit the house. He may not warm up to them right away, but he's not at all hostile.

If I'm not home, btw, he will get all buddy-buddy with my husband (and our friend, if he's over visiting). But as soon as I come in... all vicious bird. Also, if the guys whistle, the bird starts whistling, to compete... but if I whistle, he shrieks at me. Evidently girls are to be seen and not heard.
