It's not the light in this room trust me on this. It's the blue LEDs bleeding into the page. Remember I told you this one has blue toothpaste color border well the border It jumps spots then continues through the page giving it a nice smeared look when you have the light all the way down you don't notice but once you notice it with the light at 15% you can unnoticed it even with the brightness down. It reminds of eInk like a K4 or K3 background.
Sparking sound could have been the speakers. Interference from something near by most likely. Although if you smell burning it's not a good sign!
