Chapter One re the issue of not being able to get through to the new look website a few ideas come to mind, but primarily the reason may be because Kobo reverted all their country sites bar the US back to the old checkout for great periods today (if not all day).
I'm on my tablet so can't test any sites at the moment.
Apart from that - was your friend using Chrome and still couldn't access the US site's new checkout?
Did the friend change their country to the US first?
