Not calibre, but it wasn't installed on the systems I have in mind, but other popular applications have malfunctioned on system A but not system B, i.e. no rhyme or reason - but not a large sample size.

I would be thinking of wiping out the installed calibre and installing a totally fresh calibre including plugins and configuration options etc.

BR, thanks for the follow-up.

Info: I reinstalled Windows 7 from the Windows Install DVD ("bare metal") and then copied over all my programs, including Calibre from the "Windows.old" folders. No recovery image was available in this case (since remedied).

But now there's a new wrinkle on the original problem I posted about: each time (three times) I open Calibre Portable, it reverts to its initial post-install state: it does not remember how I tweaked it in terms of window size and position, and it forgets where my installed library is and the changes I've made to the toolbar. I've set these up twice now and it forgets each time. So it appears that the "cure" is now worse than the original "disease." Is there a fix for this?

UPDATE: I just uninstalled Calibre 64-bit completely and then re-installed it. But now it has the same and a new problem: it won't remember its own window or viewer window size and position. So that rules out a faulty installation, carried over from a previous incarnation of Windows. Now I don't know what to do. It's acting like a spoiled child.
