GIMP is absolutely fantastic; don't listen to the detractors. Photoshop is a huge ripoff. I use GIMP for all my website stuff and it does everything I need it to and more. A few years ago I thought it kind of sucked and was difficult to use, but then they updated it and now it's much much better.
