I looked at my Evernote exports. I agree. The limitation is for exporting from the Sony desktop software only to an RTF file. Sorry for the confusion.
I made some screenshots for you of what the Kindle cloud backup looks like. It has a benefit that you can see where in the book your highlight or note was (the Sony desktop solution has that info but Evernote does not). If you look at the bottom of my screen shot you can see I have some notes associated with highlights. It allows you to edit or delete them in the cloud and then the changes will show up on your book on your reader like magic.
If all you want is to have your notes backed up in the cloud so you don't lose them if you reader breaks or your computer crashes, then I recommend to stick with the T2 Evernote combo. If you want to be able to restore your notes to your reader easily and switch among multiple devices as you read, then the Kindle is the better option.
