Here are some photos to go with my previous comments. The light was set at mid-range, and there was some ambient light. I wasn't in a completely dark room with Glowlight at maximum. I was attempting to simulate my typical reading conditions.

One photo compares the Paperwhite 2 on the left with the new Glowlight on the right. You can see it has less shadow at the bottom edge compared to the Nook at the top edge. Also the Nook has more light bleed along the screen edge.

The other photo compares the old Nook on the left with the new Nook on the right.

My conclusion is that the new Nook is definitely improved but still not as good as the new Kindle. The text is not washed out to me as somebody commented from other photos. It's pretty similar to the Kindle. However, I think the Kindle does a better job at minimizing ghosting, and you can set refresh to every page (the Nook does not have any optional settings).
