Storing MP3 files in Calibre

I've just accidentally done a drag and drop of some MP3 files onto Calibre, rather than onto iTunes as I intended, and much to my surprise it stored them, correctly read the "Author" and "Title" from the ID3 tags, and plays them (using my default MP3 player) when I open them. Is this a new feature, or merely one of the numerous features that Calibre's always had that I keep discovering?
