From the news reports I've read it's because they use BLUE LEDs to light the screen instead of white LEDs. That's why you see the blue-ish border. The blue LEDs are supposed to help with the color accuracy of the screen.
But I understand why people don't like that stuff at all. Once you see these things it's pretty hard not to see them anymore.
The first time I saw un-even lighting on my monitor I couldn't stop seeing them for a whole year. And on my iPad mini I had this speck on the screen that just annoyed the crap out of me until I stopped being lazy and finally went to the Apple store to replace it.
