This happens every few weeks for me as well. I keep the light turned down quite low pretty much all of the time, so it is impossible to detect until it is in a dark room. Cycling the power switch does nothing, I have to restart.

It will drain the power just as if you were reading all that time. But normally I notice it right away because my Kindle sleeps on the floor next to me in the dark.

I wish I could deactivate the magnetic sensor because I normally walk around with my PW in my ScottE-Vest, which has magnetic closures on some of the pockets. So when I pull it out it is sometimes in 'swipe to unlock mode'.

BTW it might interest people to know that some of us keep wifi on all of the time, by choice. I am normally not concerned with battery drain, and want to do my wikipedia lookups and so forth without having to give permission first, and then trouble myself to turn it off afterwards, which just interrupts my reading. It is absolutely no problem to charge up every few days.
