the usb network is a different network from your LAN/WLAN and should use a different IP range.
What I noticed is that it sometimes takes a long time for Win7 to pick up the correct IP.
There's no need to change the dhcp config of the kobo.
The USB net is an extra network adapter, where you can either configure DHCP or a fixed address in the range of 192.168.142.1-254 independently of other network adapters.
If you set a fixed address on your PC there's no need to disable DHCP on the kobo.
