I don't know the ad', so I'm not sure what car it relates to. If it is the Toyota, then I believe it is simply the usual "antiphase" active noise cancellation as used in noise-cancelling headphones, but built for the car:

Its ability to "ignore" music inside the car could/may be adapted to other distinctive noises as well - jackhammers may occupy a frequency that can be cancelled, while sirens may occupy another frequency that the system might be built to ignore. I've tried to find more info on the Honda/Acura active noise cancellation system as well, which has been around for some years, but with no success (though I believe it is a Bose product, and the Bose headphones "ignore" speech and sirens, so that's possibly/likely applicable in the Honda/Acura models).
