Not a very good idea in my opinion.
I believe that Toyota's new system is meant to "ignore" internal music, and not try to cancel that, and only focus on cancelling engine and road noise. It is possible (probable?) that it also "ignores" sirens, allowing them to come through loud and clear. Perhaps it's similar to some noise-cancelling headphones which don't fully cancel speech, so that you can hear, for instance, the hostie on the plane asking you if you'd like another gin-and-tonic (asking for a "Zany Carter" gets you suspicious looks - not recommended ), but you can only barely hear the roar of the jets.
