If you're going to be downloading content from other sources (by plugging your device into your computer with a USB cable), the default is to show the number of pages in the entire book -- but there are ways to get it to do the by-chapter page numbering for those, too.

This is one of my favorite Kobo features; I find it very handy knowing how much is left in a chapter (because it spurs me on to finish the chapter).
Funny that, I find my self saying to myself, it wont take long to finish the chapter and the next thing I know is I am halfway through the book.
