Unhappy Calibre conversion problem

I've used Calibre for several years now with no problems, but am a very basic user-- I don't change any settings other than what format I convert to on occasion.

Recently, I am having an odd problem with it. I use Windows7 64bit operating system with Calibre 1.7 and convert to MOBI format. I generally convert books, and then email them through my regular email as attachments to one of my kindles, so that they are then available on my Amazon cloud and can be shared amongst my various Kindles (my parents' Kindles are on my Amazon account).

Lately, after conversion, it appears as a MOBI file, however when I attempt to send it via email, I receive an email stating that it cannot be sent due to it not being one of the allowed formats. When I try to open the MOBI file with MobiPocketReader, it will not open, and instructs me to download the latest version to read the book. I already have the newest version of this software.

If I side-load to any of the Kindles, the MOBI files work fine and are readable. I use MOBI instead of AZW because AZW cannot be emailed as a 'recognized' format, and I do not have access (or the time/patience) to load the books to each Kindle individually. I cannot figure out what the heck is going on with the conversion.

Has anyone else had this issue, or have any suggestions what I can try?
