Now while Swiftkey does have two different versions as far as I know both can be used on either type of device the only differences are quite minor but I think swiftkey is such a good app I did buy both versions.
Should there only be one version probably yes but in Swiftkeys case I can forgive them for being up front about it, in tapatalks case it looks like they are more money motivated.

Swiftkey just released a Beta of their upcoming 4.3 version and that harmonizes phones and tablets. I have it running on my devices; you can now have a floating keyboard, which on a large tablet like the Nexus 10 is awesome.
