Taking a much-earned break after a month's hard slog on the final draft of a new novel. Emailed it to my editor yesterday and then sighed hugely with relief. Today, I've been doing little bits of shopping, getting my hair cut, mowing the front lawn. All of it a pleasure after week after week chained to the laptop until 8 most evenings.
Which might make it sound as though I don't enjoy writing, which is absolutely not true. But when it comes to final drafts, as Thomas Hardy once remarked, it can be like breaking rocks.
