So why did I get an eBook reader, well, because I needed one of course, it has a solid state screen, never had anything that uses a solid state screen before. Was going to get the Sony one at first, but in the UK there was a queue of a few weeks, by which time I might have forgotten why I really needed one in the first place, so thought it better to get the iRex Iliad 2nd gen instead.

This is a really nice piece of kit, except possibly those extra centimetres width compared to the competitors; it really does make it an enemy of most modern trouser pocket designs, including the largest known standardized pocket size, the leg pockets of your standard army fatigues. There are of course the incredible clown trouser pockets, but even though I know a lot of clowns, few of them seem intent on wearing clown trousers to work.

There is also the question of battery life, which is a bit low, but that is mostly down to the fact that it is more a PDA or tablet pc with the ability to function as a eBook reader rather then a eBook reader per say, and lets face it, being able to paint rude sketches on the weekly project report is a very important feature to any device, and one can forgive a lot of limits on the device introduced by adding this functionality.

This brings me to the reason why I joined this forum, the iLiad still seems to be missing a key feature to function as a eBook reader, the possibility to automatically resume reading a book at the same place as you where when you put down the reader, when you are just getting to the conclusion of a really good book, like say Homer Iliad, you don’t want to spend ten minutes to flip to page three hundred and something to finally find out if it was the one eyed butler who did it. Luckily enough there is a developer forum which the wonderful people at mobileread hosts, so I thought I would join them and then add a new function to the reader that provides this functionality, as this in my opinion is what a sensible gentleman would do, and I am nothing if not sensible, just as I am everything but sane.

Well, I’m of to read coding manuals, possibly even on my eBook reader.
