I'm sorry - who's talking about "internet surveys"? Tribble's figures are not a "survey" - they are the number of customers who have contacted him to report that the machine they bought from him is faulty. In European countries one initially contacts the retailer to report faults with a product, so this
is a reliable datum.
I have a degree in mathematics, by the way; I'm well aware of the reliability (or otherwise) of statistics.
