Dealing with "state" files (mbp, pdr, ...)

Hello!

As per my intro, I have a big library of e-books on my hard-drive; some PDFs, some mobis, some rars, some azws transferred from my (now unavailable) Kindle.

And most of the ones I've read have state files associated with them (mbp - mobi; pdr - PDF; etc) that include the page I'm at, the highlights, and so on.

Now I'm only interested in retrieving the highlights and copying them down, so that I can later use these excerpts as refreshers, to write reviews, or as a convenient means of research.

How do you go about opening these files, and copying those excerpts as some kind of text?

Thanks in advance!

PS. Caliber doesn't appear to be capable of opening state files, though I'm new to that software so can't tell really.
