There is a setting on the Clip Zip that prevents you from turning it too loud. Make sure you have that setting turned off. It seems to affect some mp3s more than others. My daughter's player had this accidentally turned on, and for a long time I thought the speaker was just a piece of crap. But it was the loudness protection on the player.
