I find myself quite annoyed that a bought-and-paid-for device has to be registered in order to be used with any reasonable functionality and was wondering if it's possible to completely remove all of the Amazon software and install a reader, be it Cool Reader, FBReader, or another. I'm typing this because a day of Googling only found ways to add an additional reader while keeping all of the Amazon, er, stuff. Thanks again for any help.
EDIT: Apologies for posting in the wrong forum.

Short answer: No
The Amazon software is too integral to the device's operation, although the complete replacement of the Amazon software has been proposed before.
What has happened with your device, is an OTA firmware update.
Now replace the kindlet-jailbreak, or to be certain, all of the prerequisites package posted in the KUAL thread.
As for the registration question: There are threads here on how to 'fake' the registration on various Kindle models.
