That is what I'm saying. Amazon has to "wash their hands" of returned Kindles. They work. What are they going to do? Throw them away? The serial number is bad but the Kindle still works - what do you do?
The eBay seller is a 3rd party seller or what ever you want to call it. They are not stolen. They may be turned in Kindles - sure. But I wouldn't call them stolen. They must have 100's of them (or more) that they have to do
something with. Selling them for pennies on the dollar to a third party seller makes sense to me.
