I started on Android because it was sorta required to get a 4G LTE phone when signing up for Verizon Wireless unlimited data on the last days they offered it. The iPhone was not yet 4G.
Now after a few years of use, I'm at the point where my requirements pretty much eliminate the iPhone:
- at least a 4.3" screen
- a keyboard that my big hands can use. (Swype, Google Keyboard, MessageEase....) I rarely (and poorly) tap type.
- certain apps only available on Android, like the home video streaming apps for old Sony video streamers (ThereTV) or for Silicon Dust, or server apps (IP Webcam, Servers Ultimate Pro).
I also highly prefer:
- replacable batteries (though disappearing from many of the latest high end Android phones)
- micro SD slot (though disappearing from many of the latest high end Android phones)
- wireless charging
- multitasking
- Android's better notifications
None of the above are available on any iPhone.
I'm also "invested" in "paid" Android apps. The quotes are there because I've gotten most of the paid apps for free from Amazon's Free App of the Day, or for $0.10 or $0.25 during Google celebrations, probably only spending $25 in total for over 200 "paid" apps.
Throw me a bone, Apple, and give me something from the lists above, and I'll consider trying an iPhone on a second line. I guess for the reportedly more stable apps, and to be able to Facetime with family who are entrenched in Apple's walled garden. I can't think of any other reasons.
