You need to send the modified books to your device again.

I have a custom column for all the books that I have on my device. If I find that I have to edit metadata for a book already on the device, I first connect and delete the book on my device. Then update metadata and send the book to my device again.

Actually I don't send directly to my device, instead I have a folder on my NAS that I send to, and then I sync a folder on my device to that folder over wifi. The sync is done automatically if any books are updated, added or deleted. I use the app FolderSync. But I also have to reimport the book to Mantano.

I usually avoid sending books to my device if I'm not confident that the metadata is complete and correct. Saves a lot of trouble.
