The above approach (dump in old application data files) seems to fail (for any of a number of reasons):

1.Registry changes also matter

2.I backed up the app data files on my old hard drive, but failed to recall the version of mobi reader I was using -- maybe I need to use the correct version of mobi reader as well on my new install. [This is less trivial than it sounds -- there have been a large number of builds of each of 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 -- OTOH, the version number may be buried in the one of the files in my mobireader "application data" backup]

3.Unlikely, but maybe I'm misusing the sandbox application (Sandboxie) -- and there are additional data files that are being changed (in addition to "app data" files and registry. [This is unlikely because of straightforward interface of Sandboxie -- _not_ because I think I'm a power user of it.]

4.Some other factor that I'm overlooking (constrained by the following -- that if I restore a hard drive image to a new physical drive, then I'm able to keep the old PID as primary)
