I don't know if it is cable or phone pinout.
So try it both ways.

PS: That diagram you are referring to ** is not ** about a 1.8v ttl phone/cable - that is about a 3.3v ttl phone/cable.

Using the proper cable is a lot cheaper than buying a new Kindle.
