Fantasy books to look for:
- Susan Cooper's _The Dark is Rising_ Pentalogy --- urban fantasy w/ meaning
- Roger Zelazny's _The Chronicles of Amber_ --- Arthurian fantasy w/ a twist on Heaven and Hell and the creation and foundations of the world
- Michael Moorcock's _Eternal Champion Cycle_ --- swords and sorcery w/ anti-heroes
- Poul Anderson's _The Broken Sword_ --- a revisiting of the well-springs of Norse myth and English folklore
- C.J. Cherryh's _The Dreamstone_ and _The Tree of Swords and Jewels_ --- the passing of the Faery World
- Ursula K. Le Guinn's _Earthsea Trilogy_ (and succeeding books) --- an imagining of a world in which names have power and the tongue of dragons is the language of magic
Lots of other lists of fantasy, esp. if one has a tolerance for EFP (extruded fantasy product).
