You might want to look at removing the KePub Output plugin. I got some very odd results when I played with using it though that was the 2.2.3 version. But then I've also seen some odd behaviour using his KoboTouchExtended plugin to send kepubs to my Kobo.

Generally, the hang on processing content is due to rather poor error handling when the contents of a file are not close enough to standards compliant. I had that happen a couple of times and that started me into the habit of using Sigil and epubcheck on all epubs before I load them into Calibre.
