That is one of the points. Another is that the reader used has different "features"* to that used for epubs.

Really the only thing your doing is changing the .epub to .kepub.epub if there is more to it I cannot say. The firmware tracks some of the stats for epubs. They aren't displayed when reading as they are for kepubs. But, are displayed on the "Reading stats" screen for the current book. You can get these for any epub by adding "BookSpecificStats=true" to the "FeatureSettings" section of the config file. This adds a "Reading Stats" option to the book menu in the library that displays the stats.
