That is one of the points. Another is that the reader used has different "features"* to that used for epubs.

The firmware tracks some of the stats for epubs. They aren't displayed when reading as they are for kepubs. But, are displayed on the "Reading stats" screen for the current book. You can get these for any epub by adding "BookSpecificStats=true" to the "FeatureSettings" section of the config file. This adds a "Reading Stats" option to the book menu in the library that displays the stats.

* As any programmer knows: It's not a bug, it's a feature.
