What's depressing is that a lot of people who know, still can't be bothered to do the things you suggested. And I agree that they are basic, in fact more than basic, they should be blindingly obvious to anyone who spends a lot of time online.

Everyone does online banking these days, and everyone I know who does, is also constantly complaining about how many different passwords and keys and verifications their bank requires every time they try to log in. Everyone except those of us who know how easy it is to steal an identity, that is.

I wrote this a few years ago. While old and geared towards PC gaming, it still applies in full, to any form of online account out there.
