Keep the components where you have them, create an empty book and insert links to each of them in Comments or a comments like custom column - then you can at least click on them in Book details.

ETA : @Saberdeyn the OP has already rejected the .7z idea, which suggests to me he's read other posts on the issue, so I doubt that a ZIP or a RAR would be any more acceptable than a 7z.

Whilst the symlink idea has been suggested by I don't think too many tested it. I did and discovered, not to my surprise, that calibre will lose the symlink if the book is moved, and it will flag it as an error in the Library Check. Besides which they are awkward to create without 3rd party gadgets; and most Apfel OS/X users don't 'believe in them' because a fanboi at CNN said they were invented by Microsoft - they've been around since Gates and Jobs were in grade school.
