Helgetus, I just loaded two different German books and there is no hyphenation. I wonder if it depends on the coding for them, though? These were ePubs that I converted myself.
ETA: I just checked a regular Kindle book bought from Amazon, and there is still no hyphenation.

For anyone who is wondering why that matters, languages like German have very long compound words. There is a single German word for something like: "school backpack factory" or "parking lot management office".
