More likely, it is another quality-control issue.
For some reason, all ereaders I have owned, regardless of brand, seemed to suffer from huge within-model variation. Something about the manufacturing process has not been ironed out...

I don't think it's suppose to be washed out look at this
user's PW2. The contrast is just as sharp as his PW1.
eInk varies remember the K4S and the K4B contrast difference? I think we are dealing with the same issue. Whatever Amazon did to fix the K4s QC they need to use on the PW2 now.
