in Word: Click File>Info>Protect Document> Encrypt with Password.

Then email it to the address supplied by Amazon to re-code it for the Amazon Kindle. Then go to "Manage Your Kindle" at Amazon and send it to your device.

When you open the document in the Kindle, you will be asked to enter your password.

Try a test case first to be sure it all works properly.
