If I copy everything by tethering to my Mac, it will copy them but the books will not be "authorized" to open on the new device, so I had to go to Manage My Kindle and resend all my books one at a time through their dropdowns. THEN I had to remove the old device and establish the new one with since there is a limit to how many devices can access my books (and I also use my iPhone and iPad, so I couldn't keep those and both Kindles).

After that I had to change the email address associated with the new Kindle.

Finally I had to manually create my collections and move each book to them.

I am considering going to a PW 2. Am I missing something that others know about that will automate this process or which will greatly reduce the time involved?

Thanks in advance!
You can simply tap "Cloud" on the main menu of the new device and download all from Amazon. You can even import your collections from the Cloud. All eBooks will automatically attach to the same collections as they were in on the other device.

I am not sure if all this can be done between Kindle for iPad and the regular Kindles.
