The guys over at WindowsPhone Central forum who have had an opportunity to get their hands on a Surface 2 (2nd gen RT) claim that the performance is not only significantly better than the RT, but also the Pro 1. So unless you have a burning need for legacy support, you might want to consider a Surface 2 (at half the price of the Pro 2).

I'm thoroughly enjoying my RT...especially running 8.1 which is a very, very nice improvement. So far the greatest downside is the poor support for capacitive stylus/finger drawing.
