Ahh, Kobo have updated the 2.8.1 firmware, so that might be the reason Calibre doesn't recognise it. Can you check the device information and post the code that appears after the firmware version number? Mine is 2.8.1 (9a63806202, 15/07/13), if yours is different then you might have the updated firmware.
