I got the pneumonia vaccine 4 or 5 years ago when I was in California. up until that time I had contracted a pretty serious upper respiratory infection every year. I had had whooping cough when I was little so that kind of compromised my system. I know now that I am more than likely allergic to cigarette smoke and grew up in a family of hard core smokers and was indeed a smoker myself. I was hospitalized in basic training with bronchial pneumonia, (just a lovely place to be with a serious illness...) and once again about 7 years ago. I am reasonably certain I had it a few other times as well.
so glad I got that smoking monkey off my back
