I'd perhaps wait for a good sale to pay for the postage. My personal experience with Sony quality has been very good. My PRS-600 is still in use by a friend and the 350 was a demo model, and still functions perfectly, as does my T1 and I am not gentle with my readers.

Of course there are a few lemons I am sure, but it should not be that hard to get warranty service even if you have to send it to Sony Canada. I buy things from the states all the time
