No, that's not normal, at least by my experience - mine's a year old and doesn't really drop appreciably on standby, at least not over the periods I leave it alone for (up to about a week or so). Are you leaving the wifi off? And do you have it in an unofficial cover that may have the magnet slightly out of place, or one with an inside pocket flap that could be disrupting the IR beams?
