First I had to vectorize kobo sleep face using a photo as a bitmap source. A bit corel draw, and then I used a laser engraving to create a picture. The final painting was done by capillary pen.
But you have to understand that the middle layer porous and absorbs the ink, while the top layer is not. So after the laser engraver you can use almost everything for painting.
