Hmmm. Methinks you don't understand how Amazon Prime Instant Video works. When you are a Prime member, you get access to a large number of TV shows and movies to stream for free. You don't own them - there's no promises made that shows that are free for Prime members today will still be available for watching tomorrow. If you want to be sure to have it forever, then you pay the $1.99-$2.99/episode price. If you just want to sit down and watch something now, browse the selection and stream for free.
For me, the HDX is probably not going to work. I'm pretty happy with my 1st-generation Nexus, and if I wanted a larger, sharper screen for reading on, I'd pick up a Nook HD+ with Google Play for $149 before spending nearly $400 on a Kindle locked-down tablet.
