The USB port is configured as a peripheral, but it needs to be a host to allow keyboards and Ethernet dongles etcetera. The Freescale i.MX31L supports USB host mode and even On-The-Go (switching between host and client). See Announced: the iRex Reader DR1000 #143 and subsequent posts.
