Aah, it has a Saffiano leather look to it. Saffiano leather is an Italian textured leather that is very durable - some people don't like it because it does appear more plasticky than glove or tanned leather.
The purple color is very pretty.
ETA: what is the fabric lining on the inside cover? Felt? Faux suede? Any idea?
