I didn't need proof,
I was just guessing that it was only on the earlier Kindle models.

The 3G modem/radio is another, complete, ARM SoC.
Most of the controls are a standardized extension of the Hayes AT modem commands.
Also with an extension that supports "vender specific" (I.E: No public documentation) features.
