After a year of reading off a tablet - an iPad - I bought a Nook Glow when they were going cheap. For general reading of epubs it is excellent and I am very pleased I got it. In terms of weight, convenience, ease of use and battery life it's excellent. It's still rubbish for most pdfs and all journal articles though.
