I bought the Nook HD for simply a reading device and am quite impressed with it. I have an iPad for other purposes. The HD is far superior to my first generation Nook Color. I also like the software setup better than my Kindle Fire.

I also have a Nook Glow which I do not use as much as my Kindle Paperwhite. However, I think a second generation of the Glow has good potential for improvements. I am anxiously waiting to see what they will offer which could be sometime in October. I wouldn't buy the current generation and would wait a few weeks more if you decide you want an e-ink reader.
