Same here on iPhone 4. Just close your book, then re-open it, and the clock should appear in the top-left corner.

Note: Marvin also has an internal timer, but I've been unable to use it so far.

Seeing the clock all the time in Marvin would make me nervous, so to time my reading in Marvin, and to alert me when to stop, I've been using the superb external Chronology app.
