Android.
I have a tendency to do weird things with my devices. One of the first things I did to my Android based ereader was root it, to run more powerful reading software. One of the first things I did to my Android based phone and tablet was root it, to remove unwanted software. I prefer sideloading my software, since that involves popping in a prepared memory card and running the installer from a file manager. I have grabbed the source code for some software to make simple modifications. I have created simple software of my own. Sometimes I drop to a shell to do geeky stuff too.
I suppose I could do the same stuff with iOS, and I certainly have a Mac to facilitate doing it, but the culture surrounding iOS is completely different. Doing a lot of the things that I mentioned is normal in the Android world. It's normal because most of the vendors support it. Android is, for the most part, open. A portion of the user base takes advantage of that because they aren't fighting the vendor for control of their device.
